Rosehip oil - rich and nourishing

The Benefits of Rose Oil

What's in a rose?

Let's find out! There are many skin care and aromatherapy benefits of Rose Essential Oil and Rosehip Oil, and I tap into the virtues of rose for several Skyezone products.

Rosa damascena is also known as Damask and Bulgarian rose, this oil gives a beautifully deep and long-lasting fragrance. Its exquisite aroma requires approx. 6 tons / 5000 kg of rose petals to obtain 0.5kg of essential oil, making it simply one of the most expensive of essential oils.
Fortunately, Rose Essential Oil provides excellent benefits for skin and hair and a powerful aromatherapy fragrance in each one of those potent drops!

Benefits for Skin

  • Anti-aging antioxidants help protect against damage from free radicals
  • Anti-inflammatory properties help soothe irritated skin and reduce redness and inflammation
  • A high concentration of vitamin C helps brighten skin and reduce dark spots and hyperpigmentation
  • Antiseptic and astringent properties promote skin healing and reduce the appearance of scars

Benefits for Hair and Scalp

  • Moisturising properties hydrate brittle hair, making it soft and shiny, with highlights
  • Anti-inflammatory properties can help soothe the scalp, reduce dandruff, and promote a healthy scalp environment
  • Helps stimulate blood circulation in the scalp, promoting hair growth and reducing hair loss
  • Adds shine to dull hair and improves its overall appearance while reducing frizz and flyaways

“The Face Mist has a lovely astringent quality that tightens up the skin, but the rose is the stand-out feature. It is SO beautiful and I can smell it for quite a long time afterwards. It is very uplifting.”—Celeste

Rosehip Carrier Oil—Rosa eglanteria

Also called rubiginosa, or the common name sweet briar rose, rosehip oil is extracted from the fruit or hip. Rosehip oil has a slightly nutty fragrance and is rich in vitamins, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids. It provides a light yet rich and easily absorbed oil when compared to heavier wheatgerm or macadamia oils.

Can you make Rosehip oil yourself?
There are several ways to produce Rosehip oil and while you may not have the facilities at home to extract the oil by crushing or C02 extraction, you can:

  • Harvest your own rosehips,
  • Top and tail them, then dry them fully.
  • Cover with a non oxidizing oil such as jojoba, or a longer shelf life carrier oil of your choice. Once all the air has escaped from between the rosehips, close the lid and store in a cool dark place for 4-6 weeks.
  • Strain off the residual plant material with a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth to remove any solids.
  • Store your rosehip oil in a cool place in a dark glass bottle, away from light and heat.
  • CAUTION: If you crush the rosehips it will expose the very fine hairs inside the pods which may cause skin irritation. If crushed, these hairs should be sieved out and removed before drying crushed hips.
