At Skyezone we are willing to tweak a formulation if we believe it can improve a product. So what is the hype about methylene blue? Let's dive in...
What Methylene Blue means for your skin.
Think smoother texture, better hydration, and resilience against daily stressors. It is an antioxidant powerhouse with a century of history and a future in skincare.
Skyezone's Vitamin B Serum now has a subtle jade tint, that’s methylene blue at work.
- Brighter tone,
- Fewer fine lines,
- Faster recovery after sun exposure.
Many thanks to Andree for mentioning 'Methylene Blue' (MB)to me. Our brief conversation led to considerable research and formulation testing, before implementing MB into our Vitamin B Serum.
Following is a snapshot of Methylene Blue's properties which explain why it is now included into our Vitamin B Serum and by 2026 in our Sun Guard 30SPF.
Methylene Blue has been used in medicine this past century for multiple purposes, but it is recent research that has explored how methylene blue may improve skin hydration, reduce oxidative stress, and support mitochondrial function, making it a promising anti-aging and skin-repair ingredient.
Studies have tested it on human skin cells and found its antioxidant power to be more effective that some other well-known compounds.
The other great finding is that MB has wonderful synergy with the key elements used in our Vitamin B formulation.
Key Research Findings on Methylene Blue in Skincare
🧬 Cellular Repair & Anti-Aging
- A study published by Tutela Medical highlights methylene blue’s ability to enhance mitochondrial function, which is crucial for slowing skin aging and improving cell turnover.
- It was shown to reduce reactive oxygen species (ROS) in human skin fibroblasts, including cells from patients with Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome (a premature aging condition). *
💧 Hydration & Barrier Support
- Methylene blue improved skin hydration and elasticity in lab models, outperforming common antioxidants like N-Acetyl-L-cysteine and MitoQ.
- It may help restore the skin barrier and accelerate healing after UV damage or irritation. [ Vitamin B Serum is valuable for night time repair, but can also be used during day time.]
🌞 Photoprotection & Wound Healing
- A study published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology explored methylene blue’s role in photodynamic therapy, showing potential for acne treatment and antimicrobial effects.
- It’s also being explored as a reef-safe alternative to traditional sunscreens, offering antioxidant-based UV protection.
🧴 Practical Implications for Formulation
- Low concentrations (0.01–0.05%) are effective and minimize staining risk. [Skyezone formulates for sensitive skin and at the levels used there are no side effects.]
- Works well with niacinamide, panthenol, hyaluronic acid, and other barrier-supporting ingredients. [Hello to a boosted Vitamin B Serum!]
- Ideal for post-sun recovery serums, anti-aging treatments, or skin resilience boosters.
From Night to Day: The Methylene Blue Ritual

In our reformulated Vitamin B Serum, this subtle jade tint signals a deeper transformation: antioxidant repair, hydration, and cellular renewal while you sleep. It’s your nightly ritual for calm, strengthened skin that wakes up ready to face the day.
And the journey doesn’t end at sunrise. Yes it can be used during the day, although the Vitamin C Serum is better for brightening and tightening.
